What Are Chakras?
Chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel” or “disk.” It refers to the body’s different energy points that affect our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Some people say that we have 114 chakras in our body, but there are only 7 major chakras. These spinning wheels of energy are located along our spine, starting from the tailbone until our head’s crown.
Each chakra serves different purposes, and we need to keep them open or balanced to function well. If you’re feeling stressed or depressed, chances are there’s an imbalance in your chakras, or some of them are blocked.
These chakras also have corresponding names, colors, elements, and characteristics.
What Are the 7 Chakras?
Our body is full of energy, just as how the universe is. If you want to know how to calm your mind, body, and soul, you should start by understanding the 7 chakras and their functions in your body.
Root Chakra is also called Muladhara, which means “root” or “support.” As the name suggests, Root Chakra gives us the foundation for life. It is located in the tailbone area.
This chakra is the center of survival, security, and stability. It gives us the ability to fulfill our basic needs, like food, shelter, and clothing.
Although basic, it can get really difficult, especially now that we’re in a pandemic. But Root Chakra keeps us moving to satisfy our basic needs.
Saclar Chakra is also called Svadhishthana, which means “sweetness.” Located below your belly button, it is linked to things that give sweetness to life: pleasure, sensation, creativity, and sexuality.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Solar Plexus Chakra is also called Manipura, which means “lustrous gem.” It is located in the upper abdomen. This chakra gives you a sense of power, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
As you may know from its name, Heart Chakra is all about our ability to express love and compassion. It is located above the chest. Its Sanskrit name, Anahata, means “unhurt,” which, of course, we all want to experience.
Throat Chakra is also known as Vishudda, which means “to purify.” It is the first of the three spiritual chakras, which allows us to communicate, express ourselves well, and acknowledge our own truths.
Color: Bright blue
Third Eye Chakra
Third Eye Chakra is also called Anja, which means “to know.” Located in your head, between the eyes, this chakra is all about intuition, imagination, wisdom, perception, awareness, and guidance.
Crown Chakra has a Sanskrit term, Sahasrara, which means “thousandfold.” Located above your head, this chakra is connected to all other chakras in your body. It is the ultimate goal—self-fulfillment, enlightenment, and a divine self.
This chakra allows you to develop spiritual growth; it is your gateway to the heavens. If you are having problems with your other chakras from the bottom, your crown chakra may be as problematic.
Element: Cosmic power
How Do I Unblock Chakras?
As I mentioned, we need to keep our 7 chakras open for them to function well. Now, what do we do if they are blocked? The key is chakra healing.
Each chakra has its corresponding healing crystals and stones. Chakra stones match the color of your chakras and help keep your wheels of energy spinning right and just enough.
How Do I Use Chakra Stones for Healing?
If you are too busy checking your social media accounts, playing video games, or doing paperwork, you might want to take a pause and clear your mind.
Find a spot where you can lie down comfortably and begin your chakra healing. Then, put the chakra stones in their corresponding positions in your body.
You can also hold these stones in your hands while standing or sitting. Or, make them part of your OOTD by wearing the chakra stones as bracelets or pendants.
What Chakra Stones Promote Healing?
If you’re disappointed with your body size or weight or experiencing financial issues, your root chakra may be weak. And this manifests physically, through digestive issues, arthritis, or colon problems. Emotionally, you may feel insecure and less confident about yourself.
To balance this chakra, use chakra stones, like Red Jasper, Smoky Quartz, Black Onyx, and Hematite. Once you do, you will feel more confident, grounded, and stable physically and emotionally.
Struggling how to express yourself? Having trouble with relationships? Feeling low and demotivated? You may be having problems with your Saclar Chakra.
To unblock this chakra, use Carnelian, Tiger’s Eye, Orange Calcite, and Sunstone. These will bring back your excitement and drive to do things.
Solar Plexus Chakra
Do you ever feel powerless and that you have no control over your life? This is the effect of an imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra.
Chakra stones, like Citrine, Yellow Jasper, Malachite, Topaz, and Pyrite can help you gain control over your life and stay focused on achieving your dreams.
In love, we know that we can’t avoid getting hurt. And the moment we experience rejection, betrayal, or heartbreak, we may end up blocking other people from entering our lives.
Little do we know that we may just be blocking our Heart Chakra, and the next thing we know, we’re already full of insecurity, resentment, anger, and worst, hate.
To rebalance your heart chakra, meditate with Rose Quartz, Jade, Green Calcite, Green Tourmaline above your chest. Remember that you deserve to love and be loved.
Did you ever have that moment where you’re deeply hurt but you just can’t express it verbally and end up keeping it to yourself?
Or, at other times, you tend to speak before even thinking and regret it afterward. These are the results of a blocked Throat Chakra.
Chakra stones, like Angelite, Sodalite, Blue Apatite, and Aquamarine help you listen to other people and to yourself.
Third Eye Chakra
Do you feel like you lack direction and good judgment that you’re all over the place? You may also not trust in your intuition and end up making wrong decisions.
Chakra stones, like Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Turquoise, and Fluorite help take you to a new journey of self-discovery and inner wisdom.
Use these stones to help you get back on track, trust your intuition, and make the right decisions.
Do you sometimes feel disconnected from literally just everyone? Or do you find it hard to let go of material things because they give you ultimate happiness? These are signs of an imbalanced Crown Chakra.
You can counteract these emotions by using chakra stones, like Amethyst, Selenite, and Quartz. These help you reach enlightenment and connect with the divine. After all, we all want to live a peaceful, meaningful, and purpose-driven life.

Why do chakras get blocked?
Chakras get blocked because of several factors. Some of them include stress, lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet, and emotional trauma.
How will I know if my chakras are blocked?
It is important to reflect from time to time and ask yourself questions that help you determine whether your chakras are blocked.
For instance, for Sacral Chakra, ask yourself, “Am I comfortable in expressing my sexuality?” For Heart Chakra, ask, “Am I receiving enough love? Am I emotionally connected to my family, friends, and my partner?” These kinds of questions will help you assess whether you’re having issues with your chakras.
What are other ways to unblock chakras?
Besides using chakra crystals or stones, you can also practice breathing exercises, meditation, yoga, sound therapy, and color therapy. Connecting with nature also helps keep your chakras open or unblocked.
Your body is indeed just as powerful as your mind. You should then keep your 7 chakras in check and make sure that they are spinning well.
Learning about these different chakras allows you to know more about yourself and develop a better self.
So, are you now ready to embark on a journey of balancing your chakras for a healthier, more balanced life?
